Visit Japan Web

Good to know

  • Visit Japan Web is free and optional. If you skip it, you fill in the paper arrival and customs cards given out on the flight.
  • One account covers your immigration details, your customs declaration and, if you are eligible, tax-free shopping registration. You get QR codes to show at the airport.
  • It was not available at seaports when we last checked, so confirm that your port of arrival supports it.
  • It is not a visa and does not grant entry. Japan has passed a law for a future pre-travel authorisation for visa-exempt visitors (JESTA), but it was not running when we last checked. A site that charges for it today is not official.

How to submit

  1. Open the official site from the button on this page, not from a search ad.
  2. Keep your passport, flight details and accommodation address ready.
  3. Fill in the form during the allowed window.
  4. Save the confirmation or QR code as a screenshot, and print it if you can.
  5. Show the confirmation at check-in or immigration if you are asked.

Never pay to submit an arrival card

The official forms listed here are free. Sites that charge a fee to fill in the form for you are not the official portal. We never ask for your passport details and we never submit forms for you.

Common mistakes

  • Paying a third-party site. The official form is free.
  • Typing details that do not match your passport exactly.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Japan Visit Japan Web free?

Yes, on the official site it is free. If a website asks you to pay, it is not the official portal.

When should I submit the Visit Japan Web?

Optional: register online any time before your flight. Confirm the exact window on the official site, because it can change.

Do I need it if I do not need a visa?

An arrival card is a separate requirement from a visa, so not needing a visa does not by itself remove it. The rule for this country: Foreign visitors entering Japan complete an arrival (disembarkation) card and a customs declaration. Visit Japan Web is the optional online way to do both; the paper forms handed out on the plane are still accepted.

Is Visit Japan Web mandatory?

No. It is optional and free. You can use the paper arrival and customs cards given out on the plane instead. Using it online can save time at the airport.

Where this comes from
